This past weekend a toddler died after the car in which he was a passenger was involved in a motor vehicle accident in the Sacramento area. The parents of the boy, who was 4-years-old, were in the vehicle at the time of the incident. His 26-year-old father was apparently behind the wheel when the accident occurred.
The boy's parents say that the car accident was due to a road rage incident. They claim they were travelling down the road when another vehicle, a black Chevy Avalanche, attempted to force their car, a Honda Accord, off the road. Allegedly, when this happened, the boy's father lost control of the car causing it to roll at least once. When the car rolled, the young boy was ejected from the vehicle. Sadly, this resulted in his death.
According to an officer with the California Highway Patrol, the boy was not secured properly in the required child restraint seat. His mother said she had taught him how to secure the safety belt on his own and that she did not confirm that it had been secured.
Both of the boy's parents were hurt in the accident as well. They were both taken to UC Davis Medical Center for treatment for abrasions and minor cuts.
A toxicology report was requested for the boy's father, perhaps in part due to the man's previous record of drug possession. At the time of the accident the boy's father reportedly did not have a current license.
The incident is currently being investigated. So far, the SUV reportedly involved in the road rage incident has not been accounted for. Police are seeking information regarding the vehicle allegedly involved in the road rage incident.
